Syllabus :

The syllabus of Special Education Needs course is divided into four units; each of the units concentrates on specific areas of aptitude and attitude.

Unit 1: Development of a child and a young person

We start with addressing the issues of development of a child from birth till the age of 19 years. A set of activities will be used to show you how different areas of development have an impact on each other and how development progresses in children and young persons.


Unit 2: How to support children with special needs

This unit focuses on learning how to support children and young people with special needs including those with disabilities and other specific requirements. It is divided into a set of activities that support and guide the learning methods. You will also be taught to research how to support children and young persons with disabilities and specific needs along with their caretakers or parents. This unit also covers partnership working with other professionals and agencies in the same field.

Unit 3: Enabling special needs children and youngsters to achieve their learning potential

This unit will focus on developing abilities that can help children and young people with special needs to achieve their full learning potential. A set of activities will guide you in understanding the methods used to support these people so that they take full advantage of all opportunities and make the most of learning to achieve their potential.


Unit 4: Working with Special Needs children and young persons

The last unit focuses on understanding the needs in language, communications and speech and supporting these special children in coping with the disabilities. The unit will also focus on analysing their social, behavioural and emotional difficulties. A set of activities will guide your studies. Your research will be focussed on understanding how practitioners should leverage the strengths of the children instead of focussing on the difficulties. This unit will also help you to understand the impact of behaviour, social and emotional difficulties in communication, speech and language development of children and young people with special needs. The unit will teach you to use effective methods to support the development of speech, communication and language in children and youngsters with emotional, social and behaviour difficulties.
